Black-crowned Night Heron, juvenilePosted by Julie L. Brown (Indianapolis, Indiana, United States) on 23 February 2012 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. Shark Valley, Everglades NP To see a larger version of this image, click here . If you compare this image to the juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron (my first post of this series), you may have noticed that their postures are very different. These herons sit for long periods with their necks pulled in, which emphasizes their short and stocky appearance.

I love to shoot wildlife-especially birds, as well as landscapes. Many of my wildlife images were made in environments impacted by humans. My goal in image-making is to feature each animal in a way that allows the viewer to sense the essence of its life in the wild. The purpose of the accompanying narratives is to enhance awareness and appreciation of our natural world, as well as to inspire everyone to protect and care for it. Comments are read and very much appreciated. Thank you for visiting!

Yes, I am pleasantly surprised with these Everglades images, considering that it took me almost 3 years to process them. I really must give all of my Florida WETLANDS images another look, and create a gallery on my smugmug site.
